چکیده

The flow generated by heat convection in a long, vertical channel is studied by means of particle imagery velocimetry techniques, with the help of the thermal measurements from a previous paper (Gibert et al 2009 Phys. Fluids 21 035109). We analyse the mean velocity profiles and the Reynolds stresses, and compare the present results with the previous ones obtained in a larger cell and at a larger Reynolds number. We calculate the horizontal temperature profile and the related horizontal heat flux. The pertinence of effective turbulent diffusivity and viscosity is confirmed by the low value of the associated mixing length. We study the one-point and two-point statistics of both velocity components. We show how the concept of turbulent viscosity explains the relations between the local probability density functions (pdf) of fluctuations for temperature, vertical and horizontal velocity components. Despite the low Reynolds number values explored, some conclusions can be drawn about the small scale velocity differences and the related energy cascade. 4 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Numerical Solution of Natural Convection in a Vertical Channel.

Natural convection between vertical parallel plates occurs frequently in applications such as solar collectors and cooling of electronic instruments. The problem is a two dimensional developing buoyant flow. In this work, the two dimensional conservation equations are solved numerically for constant wall temperature and constant wall heat flux. The results for the local Nusselt number at the du...

Non-Darcian Mixed Convection Flow in Vertical Composite Channels with Hybrid Boundary Conditions

In this article, the effects of viscous dissipation and inertial force on the velocity and temperature distributions of the mixed convection laminar flow in a vertical channel partly filled with a saturated porous medium have been studied. In this regard, the Brinkman–Forchheimer extended Darcy model was adopted for the fluid flow in the porous region. In addition, three different viscous dissi...

Unsteady free convection flow between two vertical plates with variable temperature and mass diffusion

The unsteady free convection flow between two long vertical parallel plates withvariable temperature and mass diffusion in the presence of the thermal radiation hasbeen presented. The governing dimensionless coupled linear partial differentialequations on the flow are solved by using the Laplace transform technique. TheExact solutions have been obtained for the fluid velocity, temperature and t...

مقایسه ضریب موضعی انتقال حرارت جابجایی آزاد از استوانه‌های افقی در ردیف‌های عمودی و مایل

An experimental and numerical study of free convection heat transfer from a channel consisting of a vertical sinusoidal wavy surface and a vertical flat plate has been carried out. The vertical wavy surface was maintained at a constant temperature, while the flat plate is adiabatic. A Mach-Zehnder Interferometer was used to determine the local heat transfer coefficients of sinusoidal wavy surfa...

تحلیل نحوه پخش نانوذرات در جریان جابه‌جایی مختلط آشفته نانوسیال آب و اکسید مس

In the present paper, turbulent convection of CuO-Water Nanofluid in a vertical channel is investigated numerically. In order to simulate the flow, the fluid is considered as a continuous phase while the discrete nanoparticles are dispersed through it. The dispersion of CuO nanoparticles in different flow conditions are studied in order to find the effective mechanisms of particles dispersion i...
